Our stillage concept was the first important step towards sustainability. Instead of placing profiles with excess length on standard Euro pallets and risking them bending during transport, we think before we act, make a little more work for ourselves and rule out bending the profiles in return. At the same time, we save an enormous amount of space during transport, which drastically reduces our cargo mileage.
Many tons less emissions, hardly any rejects and no re-ordering, instead more planning reliability and elegance – SmartPac is popular for many reasons. We continued what we started with the stillage concept, because SmartPac now also protects profiles from damage on the construction site. Our customers report that they reuse them many times before they create an equally light footprint as lightweight cardboard packaging.
When I explain to my son what C2C is about, I tell him that we as humans can create healthy abundance together instead of vast amounts of waste. That's why our packaging film is biodegradable, we tested that ourselves: After four weeks underground, there was nothing left. Should it ever not find its way into nature, it can simply be recycled with ordinary plastic.
We want to develop more and more positive solutions for a better future. Our mindset is about starting simple. We are definitely far from »perfect sustainability«.
But that's not what it's about at first. For us, it is about how each and every one of us can make a positive contribution within our own means.
How can we be good both for ourselves and for nature?
We want to prove that we as Baukom can already make a big difference. And, of course, much more if the entire industry joins in and thinks about where the resources can be used in the second or third use and beyond as early as the product development stage.
